Anna Russell Basten: Gananoque Choral Society
Musical Director

Paul Harding is interim Musical Director while Anna is on parental leave.

Anna Basten, nee Russell, musical accompanist for over three years with the Gananoque Choral Society, is starting her seventh season as our Musical Director.

Anna has an impressive background.  Her love of music began when she was very young, singing and playing the piano.  In high school, she became skilled at playing a variety of instruments.  While attaining a B.Mus  at Queen’s, Anna’s instrument of choice was the flute, which she studied with Donelda Gartshore.  In addition, she studied conducting, music arranging and composing and music education.  After graduating from Queens, Anna received a Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University in North Bay.

Anna is a skillful musician and instructor for the Upper Canada District School Board.  She has taught private lessons in both Gananoque and Kingston.  Anna is regularly involved directing musical theatre for both adults and children. Her past involvement with Dreams in Motion in Gananoque successfully produced West Side Story, Fame Forever and Working.  Anna was also pianist for Babes in Arms, A Christmas Carol and Little Women.  In addition she has worked with children’s groups to bring her creative vision to High School Musical 1 and 2, Pocahontas, Honk and Once Upon a Mattress.  Most recently Anna was the musical director for the February 2011 production of Into the Woods with the Brockville Operatic Society at the Brockville Arts Centre.

If all that hasn’t kept her busy, aside from her dedication to the Gananoque Choral society, Anna teaches elementary school, conducts church choirs, works now with her toddler, who appears to love music also.
